Cleanroom production is not the same as sterilization. It controls particles, people flow, material transfer, inspection, and packaging exposure. If the product program requires terminal sterilization, bioburden control, or sterile packaging validation, those requirements should be defined as a separate test and validation plan.

Why Platinum-Cured LSR Instead Of Peroxide-Cured Silicone Rubber?

Because a pacifier nipple is used in direct oral contact, the curing system needs careful selection. Residual substances and odor must be controlled through processing and checked against the material requirements. Test records document the results.

Peroxide-cured silicone rubber uses peroxide decomposition to create crosslinks. If processing or post-curing is not tightly controlled, residual by-products may affect odor, taste, and extractables. That risk is not ideal for baby-care products.

Platinum-cured LSR uses addition curing and avoids peroxide decomposition by-products. It is supplied as a two-part liquid system for accurate metering, mixing, and cleanroom injection molding. Silicone Rubber Overmolding For Pacifiers

Many pacifiers are not only a soft silicone rubber nipple. They may also include a rigid plastic shield, handle, or grip feature designed to help prevent the pacifier from being fully drawn into the baby's mouth.

This structure can be made with silicone rubber overmolding. In one controlled molding cycle, the soft LSR nipple is molded directly onto a rigid plastic substrate, such as medical-grade polypropylene. The process creates a strong chemical and mechanical bond between the two materials.

Post-Curing For Liquid Silicone Rubber Pacifiers

High-quality liquid silicone rubber parts often need a post-curing step after molding. For baby-care products, this usually means heating the parts in an industrial convection oven at high temperature, often around 200°C, for several hours based on the selected material and validation plan.

Post-curing helps complete polymer crosslinking, improve bite resistance and service life, and reduce residual low-molecular-weight siloxanes. It also supports low-odor, low-allergen, and biocompatibility targets when confirmed by the selected LSR grade and third-party testing.
